Yet another fine movie last night: Mambo Girl!

The lovely, charming, and graceful Grace Chang (Ge Lan) stars in this 1957 film about a girl who loves to sing and dance the Mambo. This would apparantly be the film that would rocket her to stardom.

The film is relatively simple. Grace plays Li Kia-ling, a young girl, so skilled at singing and dancing she is called "Mambo Girl" by her friends. This delights her father, played by Cathay regular Liu Enjia, very much. There's lots of singing, mambo dancing and just general fun. The major subplot is about how Li Kia-ling discovers she was adopted. Of course in traditional Cathay style the film ends on a happy note and while not really making a statement or delivering much of a message, does indeed make you happy with the end result.
